8 November 2010 | The late Justin O’Brien is the subject of a forthcoming retrospective to be staged at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

It is the first major exhibition of his work at a state gallery since his passing in 1996 at the age of 79.

Justin O’Brien: The sacred music of colour includes 94 paintings, watercolours and drawings spanning seven decades, from O’Brien’s early years as a student in Sydney to his final years living in Rome. Some of the works have not been seen in public for more than 60 years.

The retrospective opens 18 December 2010 and continues over summer to 27 February 2011.
