AJ Taylor: Hawkesbury - Art Collector

This exhibition showcases new landscape paintings by AJ Taylor, inspired by the banks of the majestic Hawkesbury River. From a distance Taylor’s paintings appear to depict the landscape with an almost photographic realism. Yet on closer examination the rocky cliffs and serene waters fracture into abstract shapes and marks while the surrounding vegetation disintegrates into flat abstract mark-making and areas of saturated colour. In the painstaking technique Taylor has developed, layer upon layer of paint is applied and then rubbed back, creating an almost polished surface whilst building an illusion of depth and light into the two dimensional field.
