| 1 August 2011 | A new art exhibition space, A-M Gallery, opens in Newtown in Sydney on Saturday 13 August 2011. A-M Gallery will exhibit performances and installations as well as visual arts and design produced by local artists. Gallery owner Maria Aguilera-Mendoza says she felt there was a gap in the art gallery scene. “Galleries tend to fall into one of three groups: commercial, artist-run or spaces-for-hire,” she says. “A-M Gallery is different in that it is not for hire and it combines commercial gallery professionalism with the artistic freedom and innovation that characterises artist-run initiatives.” The first exhibition, PM by Maylei Hunt and Gavin Bradstreet, will feature a 7-metre long photograph of two dancers from the Bangarra Dance Company. A-M Gallery is at 191 Wilson St, Newtown in Sydney. | ||||
