Abdul Abdullah: Burden - Art Collector

Abdul Abdullah, Patience is a virtue, 2016. Oil, resin and aerosol on canvas. 100 x 100cm

As the son of a sixth-generation Australian and a Malaysian Muslim, Abdul Abdullah describes himself as an “outsider amongst outsiders”. This position grants him a unique perspective on Australian culture and what it means o be a young Australian Muslim.

Abdul Abdullah's latest exhibition, Burden, critically examines moral justifications used to validate contemporary examples of Imperial will: namely the invasion of Afghanistan in 2001, the invasion of Iraq in 2003, the Australian treatment of asylum seekers fleeing these conflicts and the dehumanisation, exploitation and mistreatment of colonised people including the 2014 Australian counter-terrorism raids and the rhetoric of Australian political leaders.
