Alex Seton: Refoulement - Art Collector

Courtesy: the artist and Sullivan + Strumpf.

In this new exhibition, Seton continues this exploration of the issue of asylum seekers and human movement. The exhibition will feature a series of related sculptures and installations: life-sized inflatable rafts, deflated in memorial of the hopes and dreams of asylum seekers turned away at sea; a palm tree island, symbolic not only of the island paradise imagined by these individuals, but also of their isolation; and a series of life-jackets. Each work explores the mortal consequences of being designated ‘outside’ our society, a theme present in much of Seton’s work. It will be a continuation of the artist’s unflinching and evocative engagement with this profoundly divisive topic.
