Amber Koroluk-Stephenson: Shadows on the Wall - Art Collector

Amber Koroluk-Stephenson, The Hunt 2017. Oil on Linen. 40 x 50cm. Courtesy The Artist and Anna Pappas Gallery, Melbourne.

Anna Pappas Gallery presents Shadows on the Wall, a new body of works by Tasmanian-born artist Amber Koroluk-Stephenson. Employing a metaphysical approach to painting, the artist plays with dichotomy, troubling clean distinctions between interior and exterior, the wild and domesticated and the familiar and unknown.

By referencing iconic Australian motifs, such as the gum tree, the garden hose, red dirt, and presenting them within surrealist landscapes, Koroluk-Stephenson establishes a contemporary persona within the context of art history.
Shadows on the Wall brings bodies and buildings together in an indeterminate environment, an alternate world in which geographical distinctions of place are troubled, confounded, remade and rearticulated.
