Andrew Curtis: Moonlight Mile - Art Collector

Andrew Curtis, Hoppers Crossing 1, 2013. Archival pigment print on cotton rag, 180 x 120cm. Courtesy: the artist and Orexart, Auckland.

Moonlight Mile is a series of large-scale monochromatic photographs. The silver light, regolithic quality of the earth and long shadows cast by these topographies are suggestive of lunar landscapes, however further inspection engenders doubt. Lighting is a key element of Curtis' photography; his signature technique of painting with light by tracing over an object with a handheld lamp during exposure produces an unearthly glow appropriate to a world that is secret, staged and strange.
