Angela Tiatia: Narcissus - Art Collector

Angela Tiatia, Narcissus, 2019. Single-channel 2k High Definition video, colour, sound, 13 min, 24 sec. Courtesy: the artist and Sullivan+Strumpf, Sydney.

Angela Tiatia’s first solo show with Sullivan+Strumpf reimagines the myth of Narcissus for our contemporary times. Using Caravaggio’s painting of the same name painted circa 1597–1599, Tiatia updates the classical myth in which Narcissus falls in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. He is unable to look away and drowns.

Informed by various references from classical antiquity to contemporary art and images from books and the internet, Narcissus explores contemporary culture and its obsession and worship of the self in the age of social media.

Join the artist for a talk at 4pm Saturday 23 March.
