| A consultant can facilitate the purchase of art through their specialist art knowledge, experience with the art market and good relationships with artists, galleries, dealers and auction houses. A good consultant should work together with the client to guide and assist the development of a collection. Services can include buying and selling at auction, coordinating installation and display, commissioning artworks and artwork cataloguing. Not all consultants are equally qualified, so it is important to hire someone with a good track record and reputation. Be aware that consultants attached to commercial galleries may have a conflict of interest so it is worth discussing this with the consultant before proceeding if you have any doubts. Most importantly, collectors should be clear about their objectives and budget and find a consultant they trust. |
