Art Education - Australian Art Collector
| While a formal art history degree is not required to put together a great collection, being well informed and having some basic knowledge of art history can certainly help. A good way to start is subscribing to art magazines like Australian Art Collector, reading books and catalogues, enrolling in short courses, attending gallery lectures and, of course, regularly visiting galleries and museums. Learning about practical art making skills, techniques and mediums can also be beneficial. These skills can further a collector’s general understanding of art and an artwork’s condition and ultimately help to develop a discerning eye. Depending on your interest, practical classes are available at tertiary art schools, local art centres and evening colleges. Consider the size of the class and the background of the teacher. |
