|Calling all Auckland collectors. If you’re interested in free, expert advice about building your collection, join Auckland dealers Emma Fox of Fox/Jensen Gallery and Tim Melville on Saturday 17 October as they discuss the ins and outs of collecting contemporary art and offer their tips for spotting up-and-coming talent. “The Collecting Contemporary talks aim to demystify what can be an unnecessarily opaque process by having an open exchange about both the practical pitfalls and opportunities that exist [with collecting art], but also encouraging a conversation that is not just about investment and profile,” says Fox. Melville adds: “And we wanted to do it using no-nonsense, straight-forward, non-elitist language.” Now in it’s fourth year, the talk was originally aimed at younger collectors, but “the interesting thing,” notes Melville “is that people who do know quite a lot have started coming too!”|
The talk is to be held in Fox/Jensen’s new space in Putiki Street, Grey Lynn. It coincides with Art Week Auckland, running from 10 to 18 October, which aims to bring together the city’s art community with a series of exhibitions, talks, late night openings and tours.
