|18 October 2010 | On Tuesday 19 October, an auction of Aboriginal art will be held at Sotheby’s in Sydney to raise funds for the Aboriginal Employment Strategy. Proceeds will help the AES establish a new office in Darwin and a Centre for Aboriginal Excellence in Moree. Funds will also be used to support its school-based trainee program.|
Collector and philanthropist Ann Lewis and Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander art specialist Wally Caruana worked together to select works for the auction, including Gulumbu Yunupingu’s Ganyu, Owen Yalandja’s Yawkyawk and Jan Billycan’s Kirriwirri.
The event also marks the launch of the AES Fund, which will provide training, support and guidance to Indigenous Australians, helping them secure careers.
