Arts Project Australia runs an independent not-for-profit gallery in the inner Melbourne suburb of Northcote that represents artists who work in its studio. The organisation was founded in 1974 by Myra Hilgendorf OAM to promote and support artists with an intellectual disability.
The gallery expanded to an adjacent premises in 1993, and in 2004 began operating from a purpose-built building at its current location.
Arts Project Australia celebrated its 40th Anniversary in 2014.
Exhibition programArts Project Australia’s exhibitions are curated by staff as well as prominent external curators. Arts Project also curates and participates in over 20 external exhibitions and art prizes annually.

|Opening hours: Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Closed public holidays. A behind-the-scenes stockroom tour is run on the first Saturday of every month, and tours of the studio and gallery can be made by appointment.|
