The Auckland Art Fair is now set to take place in May 2016.

The biennial event, which showcases the region’s leading contemporary artists, was originally scheduled for August 2015.

In a statement from fair director Jennifer Buckley, this deferment is believed to secure a better position on the international arts calendar.

“The decision to defer the event was not taken lightly, but ask any successful actor, entrepreneur or sportsperson and they will tell you: timing is everything. The art world is no different.

“A proliferation of fairs in the region over the past decade means audiences and participants have a great deal of choice… Auckland has to fit into that schedule if we want to continue to attract the top quality international galleries and artists that have made our fair such a success so far.”

The new May 2016 dates align the Auckland Art Fair with various art events in the Asia Pacific region, including art fairs in Hong Kong, Singapore and Beijing, as well as biennial fairs in Melbourne and Sydney.
