Australian art community mourns Jeffrey Smart - Art Collector

|26 June 2013 | Internationally renowned painter Jeffrey Smart has died peacefully in Italy at the age of 91 years old.|
Smart was born in Adelaide in 1921 and began his artistic training at the South Australian School of Art. Best known for his hyperrealist depictions of the urban landscape, his work is part of the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, all state galleries, and in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. He received the Order of Australia in 2001 for services to the visual arts.
Smart called Italy home from 1964 onwards. He is survived by his partner Ermes de Zan.
