Australian artist has UK debut - Art Collector

Alan Jones, St Giles' High Street, London, 2012.

3 October 2012 | Sydney-born artist Alan Jones is having his debut UK solo exhibition at The Fine Art Society Contemporary, London.

Jones is a young painter who graduated from the National Art School Sydney in 1997 and who won the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2004.

The Mother Land is a body of work that explores Australia’s colonial history and Jones’s personal convict heritage - his ancestor Robert Forrester was sent to New South Wales aboard the First Fleet in 1788. In Jones’s words, the exhibition takes "a contemporary approach to documenting some of the places that would most likely have held familiar memories" for his exiled relations.

The exhibition will be on display until 27 October 2012.
