14 August 2013 | Five Australian artists have been selected to exhibit at the upcoming fifth Moscow Biennale. They are:

  • Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan (QLD)
  • Richard Bell (QLD)
  • Jumaadi Jumaadi (NSW)
  • Gosia Wlodarczak (VIC) and
  • Simryn Gill (NSW), this year’s Australian representative at the Venice Biennale

The selections were made by the Moscow Biennale's curator Catherine de Zegher, who curated the Australian Pavilion at this year's Venice Biennale and co-directed last year's Sydney Biennale.

The theme for the Moscow Biennale is
Bolshe Sveta or More Light, which de Zegher says is intented to promote enlightened conversation and action in contemporary time-space crossroads.

The Australian contingent will join approximately 80 other artists from 39 countries, and have all received grants from the Australia Council to enable them to produce new work for Moscow. The fifth Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art will be held from 19 September until 20 October 2013 at Manege in Moscow.
