Belinda Fox: Tapestry - Art Collector

Belinda Fox, Tapestry IX (pick up the pieces), watercolour, drawing, acrylic, collage, encaustic wax on board, 100 x 110cm. Courtesy the artist and Arthouse Gallery, Sydney

Drawing from her virtuosic skills as a former Master Printer and informed by extensive travels, Belinda Fox creates meticulous multidisciplinary works centred on the duality of human experience. Notions of survival materialise in Tapestry as Fox poetically examines the global refugee crisis. Thin veils of watercolour render tempestuous waves while faint, faceless figures scramble up sinking ships like already-forgotten presences washed away from collective memory. Collaged in the works are fragments from previous paintings and pages from historical documents; a patchwork of personal and political history. Ultimately, Fox invokes the precarious line that divides hope and despair, empathy and cruelty, beauty and decay.
