BERLIN WANDERLUST PAYS OFF FOR MICHAEL REID
Berlin wanderlust pays off for Michael Reid - Art Collector
|11 September 2012 | Sydney dealer Michael Reid is currently staging an exhibition in Berlin and this week will also take part in the Preview Berlin art fair, a satellite event to the ABC Art Berlin fair. |
The exhibition is titled Murr-ma - Uncovering Aboriginal & Australian contemporary art. (Murr-ma means to walk through water searching with your feet.) It features a selection of gallery artists including Joseph McGlennon, Marian Drew, Adam Cullen and Deborah Paauwe, as well as Papunya Tula artists including George Tjungurrayi, Johnny Yungut Tjupurrula and Ronnie Tjampitjinpa.
The opening was held last week and Reid was pleased with results, saying he had sold works by Adam Cullen, Marian Drew, Linde Ivimey, Julie Dowling, Catherine Nelson, Chris Pease, Nathan Taylor and Ronnie Tjampitjinpa.
He also reports a number of works on hold but says “the solds on opening night go a long way towards exhibition break-even”.
At Preview Berlin this week, Reid will be showing a selection of the same artists. His is the only Australian gallery taking part.
The exhibition continues until 28 October 2012 at Halle am Wasser in Berlin. Preview Berlin runs from 13 to 16 September 2012.
