Bonhams beefs up Sydney team - Art Collector

28 February 2011 | Bonhams has added three new specialists to its Sydney office.

The British-based auction house founded an Aboriginal art department in November last year. The new hires will extend Bonhams capabilities in the fine art sector more broadly, as well as Asian art.

Litsa Veldekis, who joins Bonhams on 14 March, has been appointed head of Australian and international art.

Veldekis was previously employed by Deutscher-Menzies – now Menzies for the past seven years. From an art specialist capacity she progressed to head of art in 2007, and after heading the Sydney operation was promoted to CEO in January 2009.

She holds a Masters in curatorship and modern art from the University of Sydney, as well as a BA in Art History, Theory and Performance Studies.

She is supported by Australian & international art specialist Alex Clark, who joins Bonhams from Christie’s, as well as Yvett Klein who has been hired as a specialist in Asian art.
