Camille Hannah: BARBARIANS - Art Collector

Camille Hannah, Velvet Lux (detail), 2018. Oil and synthetic polymer on plexi-glass, 200 x 240cm. Courtesy: the artist and Sophie Gannon Gallery, Melbourne

Profound in their beauty, depth and sensuality, the impact of Camille Hannah’s paintings is immediate and visceral. Utilising the expressive fluidity of oil paint and glazes, Hannah’s paintings – gestural brushstrokes painted on the reverse of plexiglass screens – echo the rhapsodic luminosity of the old masters, while evoking the sensory experience of film, video and the mesmerising back-lit screens that saturate our modern world.

‘Barbarians’ takes the form of an installation, extending Hannah’s existing concepts by further altering the experience between artwork and viewer through reflective mirrors. The show will open with a performance; a commissioned musical piece and inhabitable sculpture by Anastasia Le Fey to be placed in the show with a freestanding painting screen, remaining for the entire exhibition.
