Cherry Hood painting gifted to NPG - Art Collector

31 August 2010 | Sydney gallerist Tim Olsen has gifted Cherry Hood’s award-winning portrait of Simon Tedeschi to the National Portrait Gallery.

The portrait won Hood the Archibald Prize in 2002 and Olsen acquired it from a private client several years ago (his gallery represents Hood).

“Portraits in public collections are usually about icons of the past, it was an exciting notion for me to be able to give something that was about the future,” says Olsen.

“The great thing about the portrait is that Cherry Hood has painted a picture about an individual who is in his youthful prime and yet to reach his full potential. There is simmering talent in his innocent face.”
