Christian Thompson is one of Australia’s leading contemporary artists whose work explores issues of race, identity and society. His commentary continues to challenge and excite as he raises issues often preferred left untouched. In much of Thompson’s work the processes are intuitive, delving into a rich dream world and drawing out fabulous images that manifest his own mythological world.

Pagan Sun will showcase new photographs and sculpture. Drawing on his formal sculpture training and from his doctoral research at the University of Oxford, Thompson exaggerates the dimensions of the human form in his monochrome and highly decorative surreal portraits, performs the timelessness of kinship in a stylised lyrical video work of the artist singing in his native tongue, and harnesses the complex history of the outback desert hinterland of his childhood in his evocative and powerful sculptural works.
