Christopher Rimmer: Sign of Life - Art Collector

Two deserted ghost towns in the Namib Desert on Southern Africa’s Western coast provide the setting for British photographer Christopher Rimmer’s latest project. Rimmer, who is best known for his large scale, monochromatic images of Africa, uses the two deserted towns as a visual backdrop to visually document what he terms, the tragedy of lost significance and the ultimate futility of human endeavour. His latest exhibition comprises 25 large scale colour prints depicting interior spaces overwhelmed by sand, which pours in through open windows and doors, obliterating everything in its Insidious and claustrophobic flow. As the towns are slowly but inextricably buried under the shifting sands, we are reminded that in the end, despite all the efforts of mankind, it is only time which endures.
