Claudia Moodoonuthi: Ruby and Hunter - Art Collector

Claudia Moodoonuthi, Kombali Story Places (detail), 2016. Synthetic polymer paint on canvas. Courtesy of the artist and Alcaston Gallery, Melbourne.

In Ruby and Hunter, stories relating to Claudia Moodoonuthi’s place of belonging, Kaiadilt Country of Bentinck Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, QLD are represented through reflections on culture, identity and family ties. Inspired by her two dogs named Ruby and Hunter, Moodoonuthi honours her people’s innate relationship with dingos and a shared understanding of the land and each other. These narratives are translated through vibrant paintings and sculptural forms that embody a deep connection to Country nurtured during Claudia Moodoonuthi’s formative years.

Ruby and Hunter has been curated in collaboration with Freja Carmichael.
