Corrigan shows off the latest additions to his collection - Art Collector

30 October 2012 | Pat Corrigan, one of the country’s most well known collectors of Aboriginal art, has published a second book on his collection.

Power + Colour
focuses on works produced since 2000. It follows on from New Beginnings, published in 2008, which concentrated on earlier works from the collection.

The new book, written by art adviser Jane Raffan, features the work of 76 artists from 25 communities across Australia.

“I’m inspired by the power and colour of artists like Tommy Watson, Wingu Tingima, the artistic flourish of works from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara and Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands and other remote emergent centres in Western Australia,” he explains.

Others featured in the collection include Sally Gabori and young painter Daniel Walbidi.

“Collecting has been described as a communicable obsession, and I’m pleased to be able to communicate the sheer joy that my obsession brings to me, to as wide an audience as possible, through this publication,” Corrigan says.

Power + Colour: New painting from the Corrigan Collection of 21st century Aboriginal art (hardback, 368 pages) has been published by Macmillan.
