Dane Lovett: So many days and vases to fill - Art Collector

Dane Lovett, Untitled (Chrysanthemum), 2013. Acrylic and oil on dibond, 60 x 81cm. Courtesy: the artist and Sullivan + Strumpf, Sydney

Looking at past design movements such as British Studio pottery and Italian postmodernism, Dane Lovett assesses the historical border between art and design as well as the similarities between pottery and painting - both having such extensive histories as well as basic, simple and largely unchanged methods of production despite significant technological advancements in society. The new works exhibited in So many days and vases to fill is a collection of smaller scaled still-life paintings which take their lead from imagery collected from vintage pottery journals and 1960's books on indoor gardening.
