David Shrigley : Works on Paper - Art Collector

David Shrigley, ‘We are all trapped in the moment’, 2018. Acrylic on paper, 42 x 30cm. Courtesy: the artist and Two Rooms, Auckland.

Produced in the UK at the end of 2018, the new exhibition of more than 75 works on paper by British artist David Shrigley, shows the artist at his playful and irreverent best. Chronicling the most complex, as well as the most marginal moments of human experience, Shrigley’s art is a never-ending stream of ideas, observations, jokes and strangely profound moral insights. His signature style of pared-down graphic forms, sputtering scripts, doodles, and cartoons achieve an admirable combination of economy and eloquence. Drawing has been the mainstay of his practice.

These new and colourful works have an immediacy and authenticity, acquiring an appearance of spontaneity which creates a direct relationship with the viewer. Shrigley’s new work has a lightness and ease that belies the incisiveness of his propositions as he lays bare the ambiguities, absurdities and pathos of everyday life.
