|Eric Bridgeman is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Australia and Papua New Guinea. Bridgeman’s practice encompasses the disciplines of photography, performance, video, and installation. The dominant focus of his work involves the discussion of social and cultural domains with particular reference to masculinity.|
Bridgeman’s new body of work, The Trade, is an ongoing series which refers to notions of exchange between cultures, both in a political and social context. These photographs highlight social links between photographer and subject with the bilum as a marker of acceptance and mutual respect.
Bridgeman’s gaze on the white male is clearly evident here but it is the sensitive treatment of his subject which is paramount to the success of these works.
