Fairlie Kingston: Recent Ceramics - Art Collector

Fairlie Kingston, Aqua Profonda, 2017, ceramic relief, 17 x 17cm. Courtesy of the artist and Australian Galleries

Fairlie Kingston returns to Melbourne to capture familiar vistas, streetscapes and Victorian coastal scenes with tangible affection. Although drawn from her own experiences and observations Kingston’s works stir in the viewer an unmistakable sense of recognition. Our beloved Luna Park, the windswept Rye bathing boxes, the bold red brick of the Carlton breweries and the iconic ‘Aqua Profonda’ inscription at the Fitzroy Swimming Pool are brought to life through a vibrant colour palette of turquoise, rich reds, eucalypt greens and creamy white. These works are imbued with a deep sense of Kingston’s nostalgia for childhood trips to Melbourne and the joys of coming back.
