Fatemeh Vafeinejad: Healing Through Hills - Art Collector

Fatemeh Vafeinejad, Healing Through The Hills 2017. Acrylic on canvas. 92 x 144cm.
Courtesy the artist and Colville Gallery, Hobart.

After doing a Bachelor of Arts in Tehran, Fatemeh moved to Australia and completed her Master of Fine Arts in 2002. Her final work was titled, 'Multiple Levels in Persian Art and Philosophy'

Travelling through Tasmania her works engage with the rolling hills, the rounded forms of ancient mountains and their connecting movement across the landscape, healing in their quiet and calm, against the vast sky.

The motif of the white bird or dove as it gathers, flocks or shelters, brings with it a symbol of peace, while the ladder references traditional walled houses, where it becomes the connection to other levels, or neighbours.

The artist recalls her earliest memories as a child of simple stucco walls, a ladder and looking up to the sky.
