Fehilys to auction works from their collection - Art Collector

21 May 2012 | Fehily Contemporary co-directors Lisa and Ken Fehily are auctioning works from their collection in Sydney next week. Together with the directors of Bonhams, the couple will host a number of viewings before conducting an auction at Byron Kennedy Hall in Moore Park next Tuesday 29 May 2012.

Ken Fehily was appointed the new chair of Melbourne Art Foundation earlier this month succeeding William Nuttall, director of Niagara Galleries.

Ken and Lisa Fehily hope to use the proceeds from the auction towards continuing to support artists as well as build on their collection and start a new charity foundation. Fehily Foundation will be a family-run charity initiative to be set up with the assistance of the Myer Family Office.

The couple began collecting in the late 1990s beginning with a bronze sculpture and some mixed media pieces. Since then, the Fehily’s collection has grown as well as their prominence in the art scene.

"It wasn't a simple matter of just buying art to put on the wall,” says Lisa Fehily in a press release about the auction. “It became an extraordinarily challenging journey of meeting and understanding that special world of the artist. involving visits to their studios to hear and understand how art fitted into their world," she adds.
