The 12 finalists for the 2015 NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) have been announced. The fellowship, which is valued at $30,000, aims to showcase some of the best emerging practices in NSW.

Lucas Davidson, Heath Franco, Emily Hunt, Stevie Fieldsend, Biljana Jancic, Leahlani Johnson, Mason Kimber, Sarah Mosca, Tom Polo, Nicola Smith, Angela Tiatia and Justine Varga are the finalists for 2015. The award exhibition is held at Artspace in Sydney and is one of the most well attended events in its annual program.

Artspace executive director Alexie Glass-Kantor and curator Sebastian Goldspink are working in collaboration to curate the show. Both will work closely with each of the 12 artists who will develop their work for the finalists’ presentation, set to take place in November.

“It is always a welcomed surprise to receive the list of finalists and we thank the judges for identifying this year’s extraordinary group of artists,” says Glass-Kantor. “We look forward to collaborating with the artists to realise an ambitious exhibition of new work.”

Troy Grant, deputy premier and minister for the arts, said the fellowship is an important facet of government support of emerging artists: “Improving the skills of emerging artists is a key focus of the Government’s new Create in NSW framework that guides strategy, investment and partnerships to grow a thriving, globally connected arts and cultural sector.”
