Fiona Pardington: Stilling the Glance - Art Collector

Fiona Pardington, Still Life with My Mother's Roses, Pomegranates & Plastic Bottles, Ripiro Beach, 2013. Inkjet print on Epson Hot Press 310gsm cotton rag, 110 x 80cm, edition of 10. Courtesy: the artist and Suite Gallery, Wellington

Fiona Pardington’s work undertaken during her 2013 Colin McCahon Artist’s Residency is seductive and strikingly surreal. Pardington’s ambiguous and allegorical works include flowers from McCahon’s garden and dried e-ihumoana (Portuguese man-o’-war) from the West coast. Skulls, candles and crystal, in the tradition of the vanitas painting, combine with handcuffs and a gilded dildo – an erotic element recurs through Pardington’s art practice
