First edition of Art Basel Hong Kong launching tonight - Art Collector

22 May 2013 | The first edition of Art Basel Hong Kong launches tonight with its vernissage celebrations at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center in Wan Chai.

Art Collector magazine is participating in the fair as a media partner and is also leading a group of Australian collectors at the fair.

Australian galleries Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery, Neon Parc, Ryan Renshaw, Starkwhite, Sullivan + Strumpf, dianne tanzer gallery + projects, Tolarno, Utopian Slumps, Murray White Room and Jensen Gallery will all also be participating.

The art fair will consist of:
The Galleries sector which will present more than 170 of the world’s leading art galleries; Insights that will showcase projects from Asia and the Asia-Pacfic region; Discoveries which is Art Basel Hong Kong’s platform for emerging contemporary artists from around the world; and Encounters, a sector of the fair designed to present large-scale sculpture and installation works from leading artists.

There are also plenty of satellite events which art fair attendees can check out, including the site of Mobile+, Hong Kong’s future museum for visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Mobile+ is staging , an exhibition of six giant inflatable sculptures by artists including Paul McCarthy, Jeremy Deller and Choi Jeong Hwa.
