Former student paints tutor for Refuses people's choice - Art Collector

25 May 2010 | Visitors to the 2010 Salon des Refuses exhibition have voted Ann Cape the winner of the 12th Holding Redlich People's Choice for her portrait of painter Kevin Connor.

''Many years ago at the National Art School I had the privilege to have Kevin as a tutor in one of my painting classes and at the time commenced a portrait of him which was never completed,'' says Cape.

''So after many intervening years I thought it would be interesting to again paint a portrait of him in association with the earlier work. The latter I have to say did not live up to expectations as it had been living in the roof with the possums for too long.''

Cape won the $2,000 prize from a field of over 1,600 entries.
