Foster & Berean win developing artist award - Art Collector

22 November 2010 | Pat Foster & Jan Berean, a collaborative duo based in Melbourne, are the inaugural recipients of the Jane Scally Developing Artist Award.

The new award has been established by the
Australian Centre for Contemporary Art to give young artists the opportunity to travel internationally and meet with a selected mentor.

Foster & Berean will use the award to travel to Scotland in March next year to study with renowned artist Martin Boyce (who represented Scotland at the Venice Biennale).

The duo have worked together for the past 10 years. Their work deals with modern urban planning and design practices, often taking familiar elements from the built environment and paring them back. In the past they have reconstructed toilet blocks, tram stops and glass ceilings.

The award has been established with the support of Peter Jopling QC, a member of the ACCA board, in honour of his late wife Jane, who believed strongly in the role of travel and mentoring in shaping young arts professionals.
