|12 February 2013 | Garis & Hahn's co-directors Mary Garis and Sophie Hahn have launched a hybrid space that functions between a dealer gallery and a Kunsthalle in the lower east side of New York City. With a rotating program of group exhibitions curated on a project by project basis, they aim to encourage dialogue between the varying practices of selected artists.|
The gallery's launch exhibition showcased photography masters from Yale
School of Fine Art (including Monika Sziladi, pictured above) and was curated by Andrea Pemberton of Gagosian Gallery.
Co-director Sophie Hahn was born in Sydney and worked at Shapiro Auctioneers followed by the role of fine art expert for AXA Art Insurance. Hahn's background will have impact on the Garis & Hahn program with the gallery currently researching Australian content. There is an upcoming show in the (northern hemisphere) spring that Hahn says will focus on multiple Australian artists.
