Graeme Lee: Works on Paper - Art Collector

Courtesy: the artist and Cambridge Studio Gallery, Melbourne

Landscapes, gardens and living settings are an integral part of our development, whether they are classically formal as in Versailles or the romantic parklands of London. Gainsborough has “Mr and Mrs Andrews” posing in their charming estate so as to depict their identity. Fred Williams describes another identity to own, that which is rugged and grand.

These works show a variety of settings: the rambling chaos of our rain forest that encloses Wye River, the dramatic scenery of Provence and the charming domestic garden of Giverny. Across the works the artist has combined ink, oil, gouache, crayon and watercolour, sometimes in the one image, so as to arrive at an outcome that might be engaging.
