Grantpirrie confirms closure - Art Collector

26 September 2011 | The owners of Grantpirrie have confirmed they are closing their gallery space in Redfern, Sydney. The last day will be 15 October 2011.

While they might be abandoning the traditional gallery format, directors Stephen Grant and Bridget Pirrie will continue running the gallery’s project arm, extending its reach internationally.

The first project will see Sam Smith exhibited in Berlin in 2011.

“Today we have decided to finish the gallery, but Grantpirrie will live on,” said Grant and Pirrie in a joint statement released on Friday last week. “Grantpirrie is about artists and their art. Grantpirrie is about sharing our passion for pushing the curatorial envelope with dynamism and flair, uniting like-minded artists and audiences who today are in all corners of the world.”

Future projects, they hint, will be held all over the world.

“We did not start in a white box and will not end there anytime soon,” the joint statement says.
