Group Exhibition: Earth - Ochre painting from Warmun - Art Collector

Mabel Juli, Garnkiny Ngarranggarni, 2012. 120 x 45cm.

Warmun Art Centre, in the East Kimberley, holds a significant place in the history of contemporary Australian art.

It is here that both Rover Thomas and Queenie McKenzie painted their country, using ochres dug from their land, and it is the leadership of these pioneers that continues to encourage generations of Aboriginal artists to maintain connections to country.

The rich velvety paintings from Warmun draw on both traditional Ngarrangkarni (Dreaming) stories and artists’ contemporary experience.

Tim Melville is proud to present this significant exhibition of Ochre Paintings to a New Zealand audience.
