Group Exhibition: NAIDOC Week 2017 - Art Collector

Genevieve Grieves, Lament, 2013, three channel video, 7.00 duration. Courtesy of the artists and MARS Gallery, Melbourne.

NAIDOC Week 2017 @ MARS brings together five indigenous Australian contemporary artists from the Gunjmara, Yorta Yorta, Ngarrindjeri, Worimi, Wadawurrung and Taungurong tribes. Through a mix of old and new media this group show explores themes of cultural dichotomy, the historic representations of First Nation's people, repressed cultural identity and interpretations of Indigenous culture through the everyday items of ancestors.

Genevieve Grieves says of her video work in the exhibition,
Lament, “…is an act of memorialisation; an act of remembrance. As it is through the recognition of what has gone before - however difficult this journey may be - that we can mourn, heal and find some peace within and between our selves.”

Exhibition opens: 3pm-5pm, Saturday 1 July 2017
Exhibition closes: 7 July 2017
Location: 7 James Street, Windsor, Melbourne.
