Novocastria refers to the Latin novo (new) castrum (fort or castle) and focuses particularly upon Newcastle. The scope of works in this exhibition highlights the fact that the Gallery collection contains some of the most important visual histories of Newcastle.

This exhibition tells the story of the legacy and lineage of generations of artists from Indigenous and colonial storytellers to the present day. Each different perspective through the artist’s eye presents us with an alternate view to Newcastle and ‘being Novocastrian’.
