Join Di Stevens, curator at Tali Gallery, Sydney as she discusses Ngurratjuta Art Centre in Alice Springs that supports over 300 Aboriginal artists and has a particular focus on the Hermannsburg school artists that continue the watercolour landscapes tradition. There are approximately 15 artists, all descendents of Albert Namatjira, that paint in the watercolour style. The Ngurratjuta watercolour artists will exhibit their works in Customs House Library in Sydney as part of the NAIDOC Week events. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australian each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC originally stood for National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee - this committee was once responsible for organising national activities during this week of celebration, and its acronym has since become the name of the week itself. | ||||
