Hannah Bertram wins Viscopy emerging artist prize - Art Collector

17 August 2010 | Hannah Bertram has won the inaugural $10,000 John Fries Memorial Prize. The new prize is open to emerging Australian artists of all ages and disciplines who are not represented in a regional, state, territory or national public art collection.

Over 300 entries were received and the strength of the field prompted judges to award a second prize of $5,000, which went to Melanie Irwin. As part of their prizes, the artists will also stage an exhibition at Viscopy's Blackfriars off Broadway gallery space in Sydney.

The finalists exhibition, which also presents work by Sanne Mestrom, Deidre But-Husaim and Laylo Vardo, will run until 30 September 2010.
