Helen Lempriere sculptor scholarships for 2013 - Art Collector

19 June 2013 | The recipients of the Helen Lempriere Scholarships for 2013 have been announced. The senior sculptor scholarship was awarded to Paul Selwood, the mid career sculptor scholarship was awarded to Francesca Mataraga and the emerging sculptor scholarship was awarded to Lucy Humphrey. They each receive $30,000 to further their artistic careers.

All Australian artists who applied to exhibit at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 were considered for the scholarships. The panel who chose the scholarship recipients included Michael Hill, head of art history and theory at the National Art School in Sydney; Deborah Edwards, curator of Australian art at the Art Gallery of New South Wales; Geoffrey Edwards, director of Geelong Gallery and Julie Lomax, director of visual arts at the Australia Council for the Arts.

Hill stated that the award winners reflect the diversity of contemporary sculpture. All three Helen Lempriere Scholarship recipients will exhibit at this year's Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi from 24 October until 10 November 2013.
