|21 September 2011 | Hetti Perkins, the Art Gallery of New South Wales’s senior curator of Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander art, has resigned after 13 years with the gallery. |
She will finish up in the role at the end of the month.
Speaking to The Australian, Perkins said: "You can only get to a certain point within a mainstream institution, and I have reached that point.” She also talked of the need for a public institution dedicated wholly to Indigenous art, something she says she hopes to play a role in setting up.
In recent weeks, the long-standing director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Edmund Capon, also announced his resignation.
