Hogarth closes its doors - Art Collector

31 August 2010 | After 38 years in business, Sydney’s Hogarth Galleries has closed.

“I would like to express how difficult it has been to make this decision,” said Ruth Evatt, speaking on behalf of the gallery and owners the Evatt family.

“However we are immensely proud of our history and our achievements as Austraila's foremost art galleries supporting contemporary artists, and Indigenous artists in particular. We hope the Hogarth Galleries will be remembered for our integrity and commitment to supporting emerging artists and our relationships with communities which go back many years.”

Owner Clive Evatt is currently overseas and was not available for comment.

Hogarth Galleries, which specialised in Aboriginal art, was known for the formative role it played in developing the Aboriginal art market.

The gallery’s last day of trading was Friday 27 August 2010.
