Hossein and Angela Valamanesh: New works - Art Collector

Hossein Valamanesh, Breath, 2013,. Cast bronze, 143 x 140 x 5 cm. Courtesy: the artist and Breenspace, Sydney

Angela and Hossein Valamanesh's works make poetry of nature, place and time. This exhibition will showcase individual and collaborative new pieces. Their respective practices reflect on a range of themes, from ritual, literature, science, belief and the human condition. In this exhibition, the artists have collaborated to produce an enigmatic cast bronze series titled Grafting. Based on the ancient linguistic form of runes – usually carved onto stones, and possibly one of the earliest known forms of written language – grids of abstracted markings have been constructed from cast bronze twigs and branches from their Adelaide garden. Although the characters could be deciphered by linguists, the works’ impenetrable content is playfully secretive.
