11 July 2011 | Brisbane’s Institute of Modern Art in is opening IMA@Surfers, a pop-up gallery located at Circle on Cavill, Surfers Paradise.

IMA director Robert Leonard says: "The IMA have been looking to open a space on the Gold Coast for a while now.

“There has been so much growth in the Coast’s contemporary-art scene of late, with the surfacing of artist-run initiatives and emerging artists spaces like 19Karen and Rabbit + Cocoon, not to mention the proposed inclusive Gold Coast Cultural Precinct.

"It feels timely, we want to be part of the action”.

IMA has worked in association with the Queensland College of Art, Griffith University, Gold Coast and Circle on Cavill to launch the pop-up space, which will host four exhibitions over four months.

It will open on Saturday 16 July 2011, 3-5pm with Damiano Bertoli’s installation
Continuous Moment: Anxiety Villa.

Bertoli will give a free talk with Reuben Keehan, a curator with Queensland Art Gallery, from 2.30pm preceding the opening. A free bus from Brisbane to the event will also be provided.

Later exhibitions will feature Rodney Glick and Peter Madden.
